LWS Collaborative Work on Groundwater Modeling, Groundwater Hydrology and Surface Water Hydrology Projects

Lytle Water Solutions is a small but diverse consulting company of water engineers, hydrologists, and hydrogeologists. LWS’ areas of expertise include surface and groundwater supply development, water supply planning, surface and groundwater modeling, water rights, environmental permitting, and expert testimony. By collaborating with other small- to medium-size firms we are able to create work products normally produced by much larger engineering firms and with a lower overhead cost and a higher quality product.

For example, we have collaborated with RockWare Inc. on numerous projects where its RockWorks software has been an invaluable tool to help LWS build groundwater flow models.

In building the groundwater flow models, we have also collaborated with Dr. Eileen Poeter, P.E., Professor Emeritus from the Colorado School of Mines and a world-renowned groundwater modeling expert.

In the collaborative development of groundwater flow models, LWS has collected and analyzed available geologic and hydrogeologic data, as well as surface water flow data. RockWare’s invaluable input has been in developing 3D geologic models that allows LWS and Dr. Poeter to complete the hydrogeologic characterizations, including aquifer parameterization and model layering, that is extremely useful in building groundwater models.

LWS and RockWare have also collaborated on multiple projects to develop visualizations of groundwater contamination in 3-dimensional videos. To provide collaboration for the development of 3-D videos of contaminant plumes, LWS gathered and analyzed available geologic and hydrogeologic data, in conjunction with water quality data from monitoring wells, and then utilized RockWare’s expertise to interpret the data to develop a visualization tool that has allowed the client to better understand the fate and transport of identified groundwater contamination. Videos developed by LWS and RockWare can be viewed at the Lytle Water Solutions YouTube channel.

LWS has also collaborated with Hromadka & Associates, a California-based consulting company, on surface water-related projects. Dr. Ted Hromadka is a renowned hydrologist and researcher who is currently a professor at West Point. In these collaborations, LWS has developed depth-area reduction factor (“DARF”) curves at a site in southern California to understand the areal distribution of rainfall during a storm event. LWS has also assisted Hromadka & Associates in developing rainfall-runoff relationships, watershed characterizations, and HEC-RAS modeling at multiple sites in California to support litigation issues.

Some of the major benefits of our collaborations include the ability to create a better work product, the ability to use more tools, to generate 3D models, and to increase our fields of expertise that are available to our clients.

HOW CAN LWS HELP?

Our team, in conjunction with the expertise of Dr. Poeter in groundwater modeling, and RockWare’s ability to provide valuable 3-D visualizations, provides a highly experienced and efficient team for your groundwater modeling needs. For more information, please give Lytle Water Solutions a call.
